The moderator probably shut it off because he wouldn't shut up.

Are they able to?

Anyway, that answer is obviously no, we heard everything, even down to the 'huh' he whispered under his breath.

Yes, it kept making him sound completely incoherent.  Every so often it would randomly make a sound like "RONNNG" whenever Hillary was stating some fact about something.  So weird.

He calls it defective because it transmitted everything he said to a nationwide audience.

A microphone has one job, to transmit audio clearly, and everyone listening knows that it did that perfectly.  He likes this lie when he's toast, he used it with his David Duke moment (defective earpiece) as well.

Deliberate microphone sabotage has happened in American politics before.

During the 1940 Republican Convention, Herbert Hoover (trying to mount a comeback) gave a speech that could not be heard properly throughout the convention hall.  It was heard perfectly by the radio audience, but many of the delegates (the audience that actually mattered) couldn't hear it.

Hoover and his associates alleged that Willkie had switched out the microphone.  One man in the Hoover camp says "it was deliberately rigged."  Hoover asked to see photos of Stassen's microphone during his speech: "I have good reason to see what sort of a microphone set-up he had."

In 1947 (a few years after Willkie's death), Hoover obtained an affadavit that Willkie's convention manager, Samuel Pryor, had given an electrician written orders to switch microphones before Hoover's speech.  The microphones were switched back overnight.

It should go without saying, of course, that nothing like that happened last night.  The CPD is strictly neutral and would never let anyone pull something like this, and everyone at home (the audience that matters) clearly heard every incoherent thing he said.

This is up there with playing video games with my little brother. He was better than me and I would complain that my SNES controller was broken. I was 9.

True as RNC putting some kind of hidden mic in Sarah Palin's bun when the Veep Debate of '08 was going on.

So no, not really.

The microphone was noticeably limp.  Make your own jokes.

There was one thing that was defective, and it wasn't Donald's Mic.

Such a shame that Trump thinks so lowly of his supporters that he would try to excuse his terrible performance with such blatant lies.

Has there ever been a presidential candidate who so openly views his voters as idiots?

Lincoln Republican has been missing in action for quite a while. It must be somebody else.
