How would this have played out do you think; In 1976 President Ford decides not to run despite a slightly better public image than in RL (NO Nixon pardon, more females in the cabinet) and VP Rockefeller decides to run for the nomination. Does Reagan still decide to mount a challenge and if so, is it successful? Also how would Rockefeller fair realistically against Jimmy Carter (pre presidency) with perhaps Howard Baker or Bob Dole as his VP. I'm a Rockefeller fan, he had the makings of great president; could this have been a winning scenario for him or not? Thoughts?

Rocky wins the nomination with the backing for Ford and the establishment. He agrees to pick a more conservative guy as VP to appease the right-wing. Someone like Paul Laxalt. After the election, we end up with President Rockefeller who would have done an amazing job.

Vice President Nelson Rockefeller (R-NY)/Senator Paul Laxalt (R-NV): 328 EV. (50.93%)
Former Governor James E. Carter (D-GA)/Senator Walter Mondale (D-MN): 210 EV. (47.36%)
