This weekend is the premire of SNL. The show is often part of the national discussion around elections. The show reflects (or possibly shapes) perceptions, from "How am I losing to this guy" to "Lockbox" to "Strategery" to "I can see Russia from my house".  During the primaries Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Trump all showed up on the show. It would not be surprising to see Trump or Hillary cameos before the election.

This thread is for SNL speculation, discussion, etc.

To start things off, some news. SNL has announced that they have cast Alec Baldwin to play Trump up to the election.  They have also released a promo showing Baldwin as Trump...

Baldwin is good. But they should've brought Darrell Hammond.

Hammond is still the announcer, so they are 'bringing him back' and he will probably appear in some sketches (he does Bill Clinton for example), but Lorne apparently felt they needed something more for Trump.

Yeah there should be enough Bill Clinton to bring Hammond out. I'm excited for a fresh trump for election season.

If Clinton wins two terms, is Hammond going to keep playing Bill from now until 2024, or will he ever get sick of it and hand it off to someone else?

I bet they will be looking for the right person with the best impersonation to take over down the road. Age isn't on their side though for finding a replacement.

This is probably going to be very bad. And I actually like Baldwin.

Kate McKinnon's Hillary Clinton will already make this unwatchable.

That SNL needs an outsider to come in to play Trump shows how weak the current cast is.  I suppose they need Hammond to do Bill Clinton in sketches with Trump.  Otherwise, why not let him continue to play Trump?

Cmon the cast is getting younger and younger and it's tough to have a 25 year old play a 70+ year old.

The cast has always been relatively young, and they've played 70+ year olds in the past.  That's no excuse.

Will Trump's cultists be dismayed or energized when they see their cult leader has a prominent role on SNL?

Can't wait to not watch this, like every other episode of SNL (normal, under the age of 45).

Anyone that doesn't think Alec was spot on in his impersonation has to be deaf and blind.
