My favorite Johnson moment in his town hall was when he emphasized how there should be "no restriction" on campaign donations, only "transparency". He lost the entire room in that particular moment.

Wut.

He actually had a chance to be an admirable, respectable 3rd party candidate before this and Aleppo.

Clinton can't work email properly, was dismissed from the Watergate case, openly stated that it's governments job to raise children, slept soundly while Americans were raped and killed at Benghazi, and created the disaster that was Hillarycare.

Trump has a history with bankruptcy, uses the Trump foundation for selfish actions, has openly stated that he wants less freedom of press, demonstrates a misunderstanding of the problems black people face that America has never seen before, and makes fun of disabled reporters.

But don't let that stop you from talking about how these Aleppo moments makes Johnson a joke candidate.

Johnson could not name one world leader, NOT ONE. Not May, not Merkel, not Putin, not Xi, not Trudeau, not Nieto, not Abe, not Hollande? If he is running for president, and can't name even one of these people, he is a joke, however you want to spin that.

Ugh.  He's just making the libertarians look bad on foreign policy now - one of their brighter areas.

By the way, which current foreign leader comes closest to Johnson's views, at least domestically?

There was a whole live stream and everything, don't you know?!

Also, it appears Clinton is completely different from the somewhat inept, yet solid leader I know.

Maybe he doesn't respect any of them. I don't respect a lot of them.

Tbf it would have raised eyebrows if he had said he super admired Xi lol.

Don't know who he should have said as alternative though - Key and Turnbull are acceptably moderate centre rightists, although neither very libertarian. Merkel is probably too tainted by various crisis, Reinfelt no longer in power, Rutte too authoritarian, Rajoy too corrupt. Solberg could be a pick. Maybe if he wanted to throw some centre left cover he could have picked Renzi, or if he wanted to really shamelessly chase millilenials Justin "its 2016" Trudeau.

Yes, I'm trying to wonder what a "proper" answer would have been. Would the President of Estonia count, even if he's non-executive?

Probably, although granted he is running for a slightly larger constituency than weirdos like us who pride ourselves on our knowledge of ceremonial Baltic leaders.

Maybe he should have gone in the past and said Yeltsin - another drug addled free marketer Cheesy

If we're going into the recent past, then I'd go with Guy Verhofstadt, maybe? Also maybe Juan Manuel Santos?

Is it possible that he, like Stein, is trying to subtlety bleed some votes back to Hillary to make sure Trump loses?

Anyone who cares about this gaffe is going to prefer her to Trump.

Trouble with Verhofstadt and most European liberals for that matter, is the eurofederalism. Although most libertarians are obviously sceptical of the state, they are still nationalists and especially not a fan of the European Project in particular.

Santos would be an OK answer, especially if the whole conflict is sort of truncated into "everything was super intense but now people are chill". I think if Columbia has ever crossed Johnson's mind it's probably more of as a moral lesson about the Drug War though.

The developing world is quite hard to come by such figures. All the recent anti-corruption people who have really taken off like Magafuli or Buhari are more like semi-maniacal benevolent strongmen. I imagine if governments like ANC or SWAPO ever fall we might see some sort of libertatianesque stuff come as a reaction. (See the new Johannesburg mayor, for example).

"I don't respect any current leaders" would've been an acceptable answer. Instead he went with "Ummm...Uhhh....Vincente Fox?"
