They have to provide ID to people to vote. They plan on doing so. They also have a responsibility to the taxpayers to use government resources efficiently.
If you want an ID to do something else, go through the normal process. I don't get what the problem is.
Why not read the article(s)?
They were court ordered to revamp the way IDs are provided and to significantly reduce wait times and bureaucratic bs so people can get IDs before the election. They apparently have not done either - not in the way the
court ordered them to. Previously they were making it nearly impossible for certain people to get IDs
(this is well-documented at this point). Judging by what was going on at the DMV in that session, it's like Walker/the state acknowledged the court order, said they'd change stuff, and then when it was out of the news, went back to doing absolutely nothing to comply or get people with issues their IDs.
Further, Walker is proposing IDs that have little anti-fraud features and that basically anyone can get with little documentation. What is the point of requiring this then? If they only have to provide, say, proof of residence, why not just let them provide that at the polls instead of adding an extra hurdle
(like other non-strict voter ID states do)? Oh, right, because he wants to reduce turnout among the opposition.
Look, if
you actually support/want voter ID laws, then even you should have a problem with this.
