Murders are up by 11% compared with 2014 ...

https://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/fbi-releases-2015-crime-statistics

Some states (like WI and MN) had increases of over 50% in their murder rate, but others (like UT) had a 20% decline.

State tables:

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2015/crime-in-the-u.s.-2015/tables/table-4

Maybe someone can do a map ?

It seems NH had the lowest murder rate last year (1.1 per 100.000 people).

The US rate went up to 4.9 per 100.000 though (from 4.4 in 2014).

There were a total of 16.000 murders last year, 72% of which were comitted by firearm.

For comparison: Austria had 39 murders last year (a rate of 0.5 per 100.000), incl. a 9% firearm rate. (A firearm was used in 12/135 murder cases, which includes attempts).

Remember, this is lower than every year between 1970 and 2011.

The murder rate is relatively very low in MN.  The total number of murders increased from 88 to 133...a rise of 1.6 to 2.4 per 100,000.

There is likely no easy answer.  Without seeing specific characteristics I'd say it is gang/drug related.  Doctors spent the 2000s handing out opioid prescriptions left and right.  This made lots of people addicted.  The feds cracked down on that and so the supply became illegal, more potent, and provided by gangs.

In Wisconsin last year and this year there has been a surge of black on black crime on the north side of Milwaukee. That's likely the cause, thankfully we're on pace for less this year than last but it's drugs, gangs and poverty as the causes.

Blue represents decreases in murder while red represents increases. Increments of 5% are reflected in the shading. Gray states had no change.

Sad to see Delaware in the deep red...

I believe this is related to growing wealth inequality and poverty nationwide.

The police are afraid to do their jobs now.  Less policing = rising crime.

the rise is worse in my state, where Police aren't "afraid to do their jobs", than in Missouri, where Police would supposedly be if your theory was correct.

In New York NYPD are whining and complaining every single time anyone says something critical about them, yet their crime rate is down compared to the massive rise in Kansas, Kenetucky, and other places where Police wouldn't be "afraid to do their jobs".

Except the exact opposite is true by the numbers.  But please, keep posting your rants.  They do need some more racism though.
