What is going on with the Florida Democratic Party? Other than legendary Bob Graham and Bill Nelson, why has the Florida Democratic Party gone through incompetence over the past two decades? Bill McBride, Jim Davis, Alex Sink, Charlie Crist, Debbie Wasserman Schultz's baggage, Alan Grayson's baggage, and now Patrick Murphy fading from the 2016 Florida Senate race. What's going on?

Compare their top staff (I know one of them) to the RPOF's top staff (I know/knew several of them). Then you'll know why.

I think it was Dereich who had a great post on this, but long story short, under the Bush governorship, the party was more or less gerrymandered out of existence, with Democrats only being able to hold on in the most liberal of districts. This left them with a vey small pool of potential statewide candidates, and those that did survive were usually too liberal to win statewide. Before Jeb, the party got cocky, and they really haven't been able to recover since they were finally forced out of power.

FL Hispanics are mostly Dem Prez/R Sen/R Gov voters. Nelson is the exception to the rule, but even he could lose to the right opponent in 2018 under a Clinton Presidency.

They're at least doing better than the Utah Democrats....

But seriously, SomebodyWhoExist's/Dereich's points are completely correct; they were arrogant and complacent before Jeb won, and then after, they were gerrymandered out of existence, and their statewide candidates smashed to pieces, which left nobody but Bill Nelson and Alex Sink to really challenge the Republicans on a statewide level.

Most state Democratic parties are incompetent.  The exceptions are probably California, Hawaii, and Oregon.

That's a bit unfair to the parties in Virginia, Minnesota and Delaware.

The Dem parties in those three states are mediocre.

And how do you grade them? Is there some kind of pageant for state parties?

Based on winning the statewide races, the legislature and House races.  Delaware is quite good in that regard as is.Minnesota.  In Virginia, Dems.are in a deep hole in House.seats and in the state House.

Florida Democratic Party does not exist. Bill Nelson claims to be a Democrat, but he's just trolling us. He was actually elected on the Anti-Masonic ticket.

To be fair, they would've had this one in the bag if not for Rubio coming back.

It is telling that something like that could flip the dynamic though.

Wouldn't most Florida Democrats vote for the (((Masonic))) ticket, though?

Based on national results, the statewide Dems in WV, KY and MT are pretty darn competent.

Dems lost the legislature, all three House seats and a Senate seat in the last election.  I'm not even convinced that Justice will win this year.  Hardly the picture of a competent party.
