Gore is able to take the primary from Dukakis and selects Bentsen as his running mate. How did this ticket do against Bush?

Gore is seen as too inexperienced and loses by a decent margin.

✓ Vice President George Bush (R-TX)/Senator Dan Quayle (R-IN): 442 EVs.; 54.0%
Senator Al Gore (D-TN)/Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX): 96 EVs.; 44.3%

Gore tries to paint Bush Sr as "out-of-touch" and "unlikable", and it almost works.

Too bad all those Philly and Cook County suburb "soccer moms" came home for Bush and gave him Pennsylvania and Illinois. Not even capitalizing on California and Nevada was enough.

Bush/Quayle: 289 EV, 49% pv
Gore/Bentsen: 249 EV, 48% pv

I think this map is more or less what would have happened. Gore was probably too young to win in 1988.
