The LP needs to take a tougher stand on drugs to drive away the dopeheads if they ever want a credible candidate again.

That's a pretty good thought - if you're stoned.

To think he was gonna be the guy to get Libertarians federal funding in the future

I don't think there's been a poll showing him under the level necessary to get Libertarians federal funding released since the spring.

He just could have done so much better.

For a while I've had a low opinion of hard core libertarians and their aptitudes with regards to common sense, knowledge of the world, and the ability to perform sound reasoning. Johnson is not encouraging me to change my view.

Well, there's a certain Zen-like quality about libertarianism in general: they believe in governing by not governing.  Johnson is just applying this to foreign policy. Smiley

I'm glad somebody seemingly subconsciously realized GARY JOHNSON WAS JOKING, because unlike the .01% members and elitists Trump and Clinton, he is a somewhat normal human being.

To think he was gonna be the guy to get Libertarians federal funding in the future

There isn't a single poll where he's below 5% nationally. 5% is all you need for the funding. In 2012 he almost never polled at 5% ANYWHERE.

5% in polling isn't 5% on Election Day.  I'll be very surprised if he gets there.  John Anderson had a much higher profile in an election that wasn't close (so people may have felt more open to voting for a third party), and he only got 7%.

If Johnson drops below 3% I'm voting Trump and moving to Italy.

He absolutely right to be ticked off about people who know a lot of facts and yet only seem to be able to use them in service of destructive and self-defeating policies.  If he uses a bit of hyperbole, so what.

He could definitely spin his ignorance of foreign affairs into a positive from a sort of isolationist perspective, but this is not doing that.  It's kind of the same problem with Trump.  If supporters have to swing themselves around the mental monkey bars to make things the candidate says sound logical, that's never a good thing.  At least Johnson seems like he means well though.

The Libertarian party nominated a complete joke.

Of course. If they'd nominated someone even semi-competent, they would have gotten a real share of the votes.

The purpose of the "third" parties in the US system is to justify the two-party duopoly, nothing more.

Weld really should be on top of the ticket. I'm voting Clinton to stop Trump, but I was hoping they'd make a good showing as I'm vaguely sympathetic to them. Hopefully he can pull out getting federal funding.

The Libertarian party nominated a complete joke.

As opposed to the GOP? Like I said in the last thread about Johnson's gaffes, Trump says dumber stuff than this at every public appearance he makes.

I don't understand this.  Who cares if it looks like he's going to get 10% or 3%?  Admittedly, a 10% result would open up a lot more eyes, but even 3% would be more than most third parties usually get.  People will still talk about it.  It's not like he was ever going to win anyway.

5% is an important threshold because it qualifies for matching federal funds.

To be fair, it's more like Clinton and Trump getting Libertarians federal funding in the future rather than Johnson.
