This is an alliance I wouldn't mind breaking. Good riddance.

From strategic point of view it would be rather disadvantageous for the United States in the region. Hell, the main reason U.S. was propping up Marcos until shortly before his fall were military bases.

Exactly. Duterte is in a win-win position. He's an ultra-nationalist and grew up in the wing of the Pilipino left which wants to get rid of American influence in the Philippines. And he can yank the President's chain all he wants because he's convinced that America needs the Philippines to counterbalance Chinese geopolitical dominance in East and Southeast Asia. And if America says "go to hell", he'll get to claim that he's fighting for Philippine sovereignty.

I mean I guess I support this. (Go Hate Me)

The ending of alliance with the US that is, not the Obama can go to hell part.

This will be also popular with the left-wing (non-liberal left-wing) in Philippines.

Again, I would quietly communicate to the Chinese that US would not mind if Philippines get annexed within the next 4 years, but that it has to be done fast Smiley

But, of course, this has to be done after the US dramatically takes the lead on abandoning the alliance.

It would serve as a great example for the rest of the region.

Can anyone see him calling Clinton a bitch if she becomes president?

More likely "putang ina" than "botch".

Nah. He'd be insulting her directly, not her mother. Wink

Alarmed a little bit on his statements on the U.S. .. Can't wait to see him working with Trump or Clinton.

I really like that idea.  We need to make an example out of Duterte.

And BTW, I don't really like the rhetoric of liking China and hating the U.S. Although, I still support Duterte due to his law and order policy (EJKs of course, not)

From what I've seen like every government since Fidel "Let's install a gas chamber" Ramos is "muh law and order" with rather miserable results.

According to his advisers and staff members, it is a mere exaggeration that he "go in hell", meaning that Obama should not meddle with Philippine issues/events

Given Duterte's last Obama-related statement I can't be surprised with such feedback.
