Which governments are the greatest current threats to the US?

I'm asking about nation-states... not terrorist organizations (Al Qaeda), criminal organizations, a place that simply lacks law & order (Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan), hackers, etc.

In what world are Zimbabwe and non-ISIS Syria not failed states? Increasingly Venezuela too tbh.

Russia, Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia (roughly in that order).

I'm saying you can't say the chaos resulting from a failed state is a threat, for the purposes of this poll. You can still think Assad's government is a big threat, for example, but you can't include ISIS or the pockets of anarchy in your reason for voting for it.

And I included every possible option in the list, including some old ones and some loony ones, to minimize how many people will vote other.

The 6 winning so far are the ones I would have predicted, but let's see if anyone else wants to vote...

Russia and Saudi Arabia. China and North Korea are relics whose leaders don't realize they're relics.

Russia. The Chinese are competitors but are smart enough to know that outright conflict with the USA would be harmful to their interests. The Russians are terrifying because they have less to lose. Also voted Iran.

It's weird that Pakistan... a country that was harboring Osama bin Laden and has nuclear weapons... is falling behind.

Russia, China, North Korea, Pakistan, Israel

I guess I only got 5 among those listed.  I considered Iran and Saudia Arabia, since I have 7 votes, but I thought 7 was a ridiculously high number of votes, so I'll stick with just 5.

They're all threats, as are Canada, Burkina Faso, and Leichtenstein, but they aren't the greatest threats.  North Korea is in a league by itself, but most of the other ones are threats because they drain our money or can exploit our addictions.

It seems that some people have not read the original post - non-state actors are excluded. Therefore Russia and China are the correct answer, since the other pose no threat whatsoever.

These nations, combined, couldn't launch a successful invasion of the U.S. at the current time. They wouldn't even make it to the coast. China will probably match/surpass us in the next decade or so, though.

In terms of geopolitical standing, definitely China. Russia is more of a nuisance than anything.
