i really wish bush would nominate danforth for the court.

he would easily win confirmation.  bush just doesnt have much political capital at this moment.  he cant afford a  long fight with the senate.

not to mention, i think danforth would be an excellent justice.

Um, the guy is 70, and some of us don't support blatantly activist decisions.

He is also an Episcopal priest which might prove to be a liability.

Well if he's a religious, forget it.

actually quite the opposite.

danforth is very moderate and has spoken out publicly against the blurring line in the separation of church and state.

Too moderate for Bush to appoint.

Yes, I'm aware that he's a delusional hack who is in no way qualified for a position on the SCOTUS. What's your point?

If you wanted a non wingnut to be appointed, you shouldn't have voted for Bush. Instead you were one of 62 million people who voted to have wingnuts appointed to the court.

are you saying kerry wouldnt have appointed a wingnut.

if wingnuts must be appointed, i marginally prefer right over left.

You have to understand that to jfern, the Constitution was written by wingnuts, and thus anyone who interprets it faithfully is also a wingnut.

Both of Clinton's appointees were suggested by Senator Hatch of Utah. At the time the Democrats controlled the Senate. The Senate is Republican now. Logic dictates that Kerry would do the same.

Ted Kennedy subtly recommended McConnell. You have a problem with him?

Bush's religious constitutency would be frightfully displeased with Danforth.
