Man, I don't care who wins. Any objective publication would make it Trump as the biggest newsmaker, right? Or would Hillary winning as the first woman edge it out?

Regardless, using their past criteria...how could it not be Trump?

Will almost certainly be Clinton. How could the first woman election president not make it?

While I agree that her significance would be far greater, she has run a pretty quiet campaign. How could one argue that she, more than Trump, "for better or for worse...has done the most to influence the events of the year"?

Obviously TRUMP but they won't pick him because they're cowards.

The newly elected or re-elected president has been picked more often than not.  I don't see why this election would be another exception.

I'm agreeing with you then.

Doubt it as they are more concerned with people's feelings that they were back then - they gave it to Giuliani over Bin Laden in 2001 ffs.

If they had named it Newsmaker of the Year rather than Man of the Year back when they started the series of issues to fill a slow news time of year, they probably would have picked Bin Laden.

This, but after Trump gets destroyed he doesn't deserve any more media attention ever again.

I agree with you. I do think this year would be an exception though.

Anyway the whole title/issue has gotten to be kind of a joke itself.

The first woman president is a much bigger deal than the racist windbag she defeated.

It's also been a joke since the very beginning.  In 1927, TIME forgot to run a cover story about Lindbergh after his solo flight, so they figured they could make it up by making him 'Man of the Year' in December instead.

But then he would have won it three times, and only one person was person of the year three times (excepting people who count in multiple group categories): Franklin D. Roosevelt, savoir of the world. Bush is not fit to shine that mans shoes. (Well, wheels, but you get my point)

It should go jointly to Bernie and Trump under the banner of "The Outsiders."

Sanders didn't affect international discourse nearly as much as Trump did.
