My BOLD prediction is that they will pick both (assuming Hillary wins). If I had to pick one I am going trump. They theoretically would have many more years to pick her.

It basically has to be Trump at this point. The only reason I can think of them not making it Trump would be out of some kind of personal animosity or spite.

Also Beyonce, Simone Biles and Zuckerberg being on that list alongside Putin, Trump, Hillary, Modi and Erdogan is just a joke. I mean really?

Of course it will be Trump.

I would love if it was Hillary though.

I understand arguments for Erdogan, Putin, or even Farage, but I think Trump unquestionably was the most influential in his capabilities as a person alone. Biles, Zuckerberg, Beyonce, Flint Whistleblowers, or Hillary Clinton winning would be dumb.

Of course it will be Trump. He has dominated the news like nobody else, and had more impact. Not to compare Trump to Hitler, but Hitler was man of the year in 1936 (I think he was at the piano, with Europe dancing to his tune or something - yes Mr. Luce hated Hitler). It's about influence, for better or worse, for richer or poorer.

(Of course its trump.)

Flint Wistleblowers is fine in a year where nothing else happened. A lot else happened this year though. Biles also fits this category if the Olympics were the main storyline of 2016, but they are such an afterthought.

Putin, Erdogan, Farange, and Modi are all fine and have good stories, but none are THE person of the year.

Beyonce and Zuckerberg? It must be a joke. Zuckerberg maybe has a claim that he should have been the winner at some point in his lifetime, but what has he done this year? And Beyonce? Because she did the halftime show? I'm sorry hunnie, but you didn't change the world with that...

My vote goes to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for walking their talk, for their absolute dedication to self-preservation, to enlightening society about the preciousness of our water supply and our sacred lands, and to their show of humanitarianism when they gave needed supplies to their opposition.

Nobody deserves it more, IMO.

They'd be a good candidate most years, but 2016 is obviously Trump.

Trump should be it - like Hitler was in 1938.

This, but after Trump gets destroyed he doesn't deserve any more media attention ever again.

Schadenfreude. I'm feeling it

Time's editors want to poke his fragile ego and see what happens?

Perhaps they could give it to Ryan? :-)

That's all Trump needs to make his ego explode!

Give it to Trump and it will be the biggest year of American SHAME.

Trump.

It's not really an honor. Both Hitler and Stalin were named Men of the Year, and not for being nice guys.

I wonder what trump's reaction might be if the article they write is scathing. He obviously would hate the "liberal media" saying bad things about him, but maybe he won't be able to look past the title "Person/Man of the Year"

Having won the Presidency in an extraordinary fashion, it's pretty much impossible for Trump to not be named Person of The Year now unless TIME goes for some weasel option The American Voter, or the like.

TIME will not award it to Trump. The winner will be "The Angry Voter" and the article will talk about how the election, Brexit, the Italian referendum and the "nationalist uprising" all represent "working class anger." That will probably win someone a Pulitzer.
