I mean.. not that I think Atlas is a bad forum. It has issues the other place does not have, but on balance I slightly prefer here.

I just do not understand the FF/HP stuff. It sounds too simplistic to me. How did it start? I only faintly remember it from my old days here.

A google definition of freedom fighter has this:

"a person who takes part in a violent struggle to achieve a political goal, especially in order to overthrow their government."

I do not think we really have anyone like that here.

On the flip side, I find it very hard to judge a poster here as a "horrible person" solely based on their views or actions here, with some rare exceptions of course.

We "know" each other, but most of us have never really met each other or know what the people behind the keyboard goes through day to day in life.

This could just be my tendency to over think of course...

It was started to describe historical figures and politicians rather than posters, then later adapted to posters. Therefore, the language is slightly extreme.

The terms are part of Atlas culture and are not necessarily meant literally.

Here's Mitty's answer:

im pretty sure i wasnt the first to start using the term 'freedom fighter.'  i picked up on it.  im pretty sure opebo and brtd used it a few times first.

as for 'horrible person', it was the poster nini who made a thread sometime in 2005 pointing out the fact that i used the term 'horrible person' a lot in describing people.  from then on i started using it as an option.

Here was the first thread to include both FF and HP as options:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=25474.0

The first time it was used for an "opinion of" for an Atlas poster was this "opinion of jfern":

Yeah, I always thought there was at least a little bit of knowing exaggeration there

Let the record show that BRTD called jfern an FF before Gully Foyle said that Hispanic was a race on the census!
