These candidates were actually doing well in the general election polls during the primaries, but this was likely due to them not getting all the exposure and criticisms that the frontrunner gets. It would be interesting to see how Ben Carson does with African-Americans since Sanders did so poorly amongst them in the primary.

I think that Bernie Sanders would do better in New England than that.

Ben Carson was one of the two most electable Republicans running. You can't deny his odd appeal to the electorate at large, as much as you'd like to.

LOL. It isn't 1968, son. Politically, the color of the skin doesn't matter in the South anymore. Just as long as you have an "R" next to your name, you'll do just fine.

I find it hard to believe that most of the industrial states would go against an anti-free trade candidate.

Isn't that why the industrial areas voted for an anti-free trade candidate? Carson?

Ben Carson (R-FL)/John Kasich (R-OH) - 281 EV, 49.9%
Bernie Sanders (D-VT)/Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) 257 EV, 46.8%

I was actually surprised at the consistent margin of Carson's lead in GE polls during the primary. Yes the polls were meaningless because they were a year before the election, but he was beating Clinton by double digits when the other GOP candidates were trailing or barely ahead. I liked him well enough, but I was mystified by his popularity.

Anyway, I think it would be an interesting election but in a contest between a cranky socialist and a serene brain surgeon, I think the brain surgeon wins.

Senator Bernie Sanders: 416 EVs
Dr. Ben Carson: 93 EVs
Fmr. Governor Gary Johnson: 29 EVs

Carson is seen as an extremely unqualified candidate, more than Trump, giving Sanders many Republican-leaning states, and gives an independent/3rd party, possibly Johnson, a very close vote from southerners.

I don't see Johnson winning those states. Maybe Jeff Sessions and Tom Cotton (not sure if Cotton would run against Carson).

Late, but I absolutely agree
