Film and theatre director, awarded with the Academy Honorary Award in 1999. Also, four of his films were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Active in opposition during the communist rule, Wajda was also Senator from 1989 to 1991.

Wow, very sad. Ashes and Diamonds is perhaps my favorite film of all-time.
