Talking like this about Iran will hurt him with his base. At least should.
Not really. His base doesn't know sh**t either.

The core republican base is basically jacksonian, only the elites are neocons. For instance, most republicans would still back rand paul if he were the nominee, minus some defectors (mainly elites + ideological types), similar to many of the people that are opposing Trump now, except he would keep the conservative/cruz type voters under-lock.

Wilsonianism  (fighting for 'human rights' abroad, etc.) has traditionally been a democratic issue, only interrupted by carter's pacifism.
