What exactly is the question here?

Because obviously Trump is causing less damage to the US than Chavez did to Venezuela. But I'm not convinced that's because Trump is "better", it's rather that he's constrained by much better democratic institutions.

Had Trump come to power in a banana republic we can't know for sure how it would have turned out but I don't think there is good reason to think it would have been much different from Chavez' rule.

My goodness. I don't expect Hillary Clinton would have been much different from Chavez if she had "come to power in a banana republic" like Chavez did.

I'm a faculty brat and a proud alumnus. FCs.

It's also deeply ironic that BTRD hates them -- he'd fit it in with the stereotypical students.

But I don't care about "cultural appropriation" and don't specify pronouns upon meeting people.

If you were ten years younger, you would. Your absolute environmental conformity, your insularity, and your crude obedience to your subculture dictate this.

Most people in "the scene" went to/go to public universities.

432: Governor Theresa May(R-VA)/Senator Jeff Flake(R-AZ)
106: Representative Jeremy Corbyn(D-CA)/Mayor Bill De Blasio(D-NY)

Unless Corbyn really managed to pull off a Trump, he wouldn't stand a chance.

Only posting this here because Kingpoleon ridiculed me for my prediction of a Cole victory in the WV gubernatorial election in 2016. I guess a Republican winning MD, WA, IL, HI and NJ is so much more plausible than predicting a 3-point GOP win in a gubernatorial race in WV. Smiley

It sounds like you are just jealous of my amazing cartographical skills.

Can we begin dropping the Ulster-Irish from helicopters yet? I do not want them in my country, and they contribute nothing but drug addiction and ugly gingers.

I feel sympathetic to Trump in this case. I am extremely uneasy with putting state hospitals and the state in charge of when a baby dies. I know people are going to bring up the Terri Schiavo example and I would respond, as long as the families can finance their care, they should remain in charge of the person's life.

In this case, the baby had 1.4 million pounds raised (or was it dollars) and there is a potential experimental treatment. I would feel, for once, Trump is right here.

In any case, if the parents can afford it, why don't they exhaust their options before their child has to die?

I don't see anything "dystopian" about that post.

I think if anything, going by the definition of dystopian, "relating to or denoting an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one" that forbidding parents from exploring private options to save their children is dystopian. They raised funds, and are trying to save their child.

The state is trying to prevent them from exploring that option. That sounds, in fact, dystopian. I err on the side of private individuals, as long as state financing is not involved in end of life or terminal cases where the family may wish to prolong life.

No, we really don't.  In fact, the last thing the country needs is for the Democratic Party to hand over the reigns to sociopathic scum like Alan Grayson and Tulsi Gabbard.  Next thing you know, folks will start saying we need a "liberal Trump" *cringe*

Sociopathic scum like Alan Grayson > Sociopathic scum like Dick Gephardt

And if liberal Trump you mean "Guy who embarrasses his party establishment all the way into the White House riding a wave of populist sentiment and base appeal" than hell yes.

Whats the difference when Sanders supporters primary Clinton supporters? They're free to do as the like.

Are there a lot of Sander's supporters who are challenging incumbent Democrats in the primaries?

Im not sure how many primaries the Justice Democrats are competing in. The most noteworthy is against Manchin.

Manchin is the one Democrat I'd like to see facing a serious primary challenge.  I understand he supported Hillary Clinton in the election, but I'd hardly call him either a 'Clinton Democrat' or a 'loyal Democrat.'  He's a hopeless sinner who has dishonestly sold out the Democratic Party multiple times just to save his own.

If I were advising his Democratic Primary opponent, I'd tell that person to go hard on telling West Virginians how he sold them a bill of goods that once President Obama was gone that thousands of coal mining jobs would come back.

I really disagree with this.

I don't care for Manchin either, but he is the best Democrat that you can get in WV and he votes with the Democarts on all the major legislation.

And I really disagree with that.  He lied to his constituents regarding the coal jobs and on numerous occasions he has used dishonest Republican talking points that potentially hurt other Democratic candidates across the United States and his support of Republicans and their dishonesty allowed them and the media to claim 'the Republicans have bipartisan support.'

I'd rather have a Republican in the seat than an untrustworthy backstabber like him.  He's just one vote out of 100 and I think, on balance, the alternative of him not being in the U.S Senate is better for the Democratic Party and for the United States.

Besides, if there is a backlash from the people of West Virginia as it becomes clear to them that they've been lied to about coal mining jobs returning, I think the Democrats should be in a position to benefit from that backlash.
This part is so terrible it overcomes whatever truths may be in the rest of the post.
