Let them destroy each other. Ryan had a chance to take a principled stand, and he refused.

The non deplorable faction of the party. As bad as their politics are , politicians from the wing are at least decent human beings even if they  don't have the spine to stand up to the rest of the party

I simply worry that the Republican Party has allowed its fringe supporters to veer too far into their core. At this point, even though many have made valiant efforts to reverse this trend, I wonder if it would just be better for the GOP to rebuild from the ground up.

This is the reason why I'm not a fan of a lot of contemporary Republican candidates (look at the partisan balance in my signature). I've grown up in a family of staunch liberal Democrats, but I've also been taught to have an open mind when it comes to politics. Next year, here in New Jersey, I sincerely hope Thomas Kean Jr. runs for governor, because if it comes down to a race between him and somebody like Stephen Sweeney, it's not much of a question in my book as to who would receive my first vote ever. And as much of a pipe dream as it is, I'd love to see Charlie Baker become a serious contender for the Republican nomination in the 2020 presidential election. Can these things happen in this post-Tea Party and rapidly Trumpifying GOP? I very highly doubt it.

TL;DR: Option Three.

Ryan is a political opportunist, and Trump is Trump.

As a Rockefeller Republican, both sides can lick my behind, and I hope the GOP collapses and fractures.

Opt. 3

Plutocrats and PINO's deserve to kill each other, so that true "big government" can shine.

I'm loving this, it's step one in ending the two party monopoly on elections.

Paul Ryan looks a lot like Megamind and seems to be kind of a pole cat. But still..he seems to be a reasonable person..he's just very conservative. If I had to take side, I would take the Conservatives side against the Nationalists. Maybe the Nationalists are better on some second and third tier issues, but I just don't see a future where they are running the show. I'd rather see what happens, enjoy the show and try to reach out to the losing side as much as possible without compromising progressive values.

There is no civil war. The GOP base is backing Trump completely.

Who gets to decide who the "base" is?  Why is a Wall Street guy who always votes in GOP primaries and donates to the party but has some culturally liberal views not a part of the base?

This. Let us not feed their delusions that things will be back to normal after November 8.
