If businessman Donald Trump fails to win the election this November, is for some reason incapable of running for re-election in 2020, decides against running for re-election, or dies while in office, who would be your preferred candidate in the 2020 Republican Primaries if those 10 individuals were to announce their candidacy?

Of course, although I only ask that you vote if you're a Republican-leaning Independent or could see yourself voting in the GOP primary rather than the Democratic one.

Voted Kasich, but Baker/Rubio/Haley/Sasse are all fantastic options I would love to support. As long as Walsh doesn't get anywhere, this would be a terrific field.

I agree, that really would be a very strong Republican field. Unfortunately, I don't see who among them would appeal to the obviously large Trumpist segment of the party. So either the party in general will move in that direction or there'll likely be another disruptive candidate arising.

Baker, but I'd vote tactically for whomever could seemingly capture the nomination as a non-offensive candidate (Iowa caucus voter, after all).

I think a Charlie Baker/Jan Brewer ticket could unite moderates, Trumpists, and libertarians.

Didn't vote because I can't vote in a Republican primary (Dutch) but if I could I would vote for Haley or Rubio. Actually Baker and Kasich are my favorite candidates but I can't see them winning the Republican primaries (especially not Baker). I would absolutely support Ryan if he somehow manages to stay popular with GOP primary voters during his speakership and runs in 2020.

I voted Sasse, because I think he'd make a fantastic president, though to be honest, I'd rather he stay in the Senate and proceed through the ranks there. I'm actually writing him in this year.

Amash, Cruz, Cotton, Rubio, Pence and Haley in descending order after that. I'd also put Walker and Paul between Sasse and Amash.

I'll abstain from voting for Kasich and Baker, as I am from Trump this year, and Walsh is a non factor.

What about Kasich and Baker do you not like?

i would vote for Kasich...unhappily because he seems very pretentious and he's too moderate....but I probably wouldn't support Baker

Can't vote obviously, but if I could it'd be a tie between Cotton and Sasse, I voted Cotton.

Can't vote (obviously), but Amash, Cruz, Cotton and Haley are up there, and I'd vote for any of them barring Walsh.

Flawless Beautiful Marco, obviously, but Cotton, Sasse, Haley, and Cruz would all be great too.

John Kasich first, Larry Hogan would be my first choice if he was on here.

1. Cruz
2. Rubio
3. Pence
4. Walsh

I would also consider Perry, Paul, Christie, Bevin, LePage (lol) or anyone named Bush. I would leave the party if the likes of Haley, Rauner, Hogan, Daniels, Baker, Sasse, Ryan, Kasich, etc. got the nomination.

No Rand Paul Sad Also you're making me choose between Haley and Kasich? I chose Haley, though.

Kasich

Pence, Rubio, Ryan, Sasse, and Paul would all be good, too.

#NeverCruz: He is too far right to win a general election, would further damage the party, and was born outside the US (yes I make a big deal about that). Walsh is a weak candidate and poster boy for the alt-right (yuck), Baker would turn off a good part of the base, plus his SCOTUS justices probably wouldn't match my tastes (big issue for me).

Easily Amash from these. I'd support him or Rand in the real election--I'm not sure what I'd do re: primaries if neither of them ran Tongue
