The Cold War-free market capitalism vs. command economy Marxism-was the greatest ideological and economic struggle of the 20th century and the free market United States outlasted the Soviet system. In your opinion did the right side win the Cold War?

I answer a firm "yes." The world is much better off without a Soviet Union or its Marxist political and economic system, of that there is no doubt.

Both sides were utterly repugnant and only a completely morally bankrupt person would support either side.

Democracy won, sure.

The fact that it was interpreted as a victory for muh free market instead is what turned the post-Cold War era into a growing disaster.

Given that Bernie Sanders got more than a single vote, I'm not so sure that we've won yet.

No, the world would absolutely be a better place if Stalin had overran all of Europe following WWII in the 50's..............

Yes, it proved that although in theory Communism can be a good thing, but no one can pull it off because every leader of a communist country has been evil. Where as the capitalists/democrats work a lot better than Communism because they do not force people to go against their nature.

In retrospect, can't we agree that the "ideological struggle", in terms of economics, was a little...exaggerated? The US has not been a purely free market economy ever, and certainly not after FDR came to power.

Take a look at who is doing well now. Where is the economy booming? China, where the government still does direct the economy from the center, although not in the same way as the Soviets. Who has the most freedom and best standard of living? Scandinavian societies that can be described as socialist. #BasementDwellers

That said though, I do believe the better side won the cold war. But I disagree with the premise that it was solely because of the free market.
