Feel the Bern!
An Alternate 2016

"...And to those who say we cannot restore the dream, I say just look where we are standing. This beautiful place was once an unsightly rail yard that served no public purpose and was an eyesore. As mayor, I worked with the people of Burlington to help turn this waterfront into the beautiful people-oriented public space it is today. We took the fight to the courts, to the legislature and to the people. And we won.

The lesson to be learned is that when people stand together, and are prepared to fight back, there is nothing that can’t be accomplished."

- Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT, formerly I-VT) in the April 30, 2015 speech announcing his candidacy for the presidency.

On the morning of April 30, 2015, speaking in front of Burlington's Waterfront Park, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont announced his candidacy for President of the United States. Viewed initially as little more than a protest candidate against a Democratic establishment perceived by some as stagnant and insufficiently committed to progressive reform, Sanders' robust and surprisingly tenacious campaign would go on to shock the political establishment and smash conventional wisdom, riding a wave of populist fervor in a duly eccentric political cycle.

In the example set by President Obama, Sanders was primed to make history.

AN: So, to nobody's greater surprise than my own, this is a thing that's happening. As I'm a notorious procrastinator and have been shockingly busy over the past few weeks, updates may be sporadic and will probably rely heavily on my own inspiration, but I'll do my best. In the interest of keeping this thing alive and involving the community (like a good little socialist), I pose to you all two questions:

    1. What would you most prefer to see? A 2016 without Clinton, or a 2016 where Clinton falls to Sanders in the primaries?
    2. Would any of you be interested in contributing to this, officially or otherwise?

I'm looking forward to your thoughts. Wish me Godspeed, everyone, and keep an eye on this thing in the weeks to come.

Bill dies, Clinton declines to run, as does Biden. Webb vs Sanders FTW.

Well I'd like to see Sanders beat Clinton myself. I like the David vs Goliath aspect.

I'd like to see what the primaries would have looked like if Hillary announced not to run for president. It would be a different perspective I haven't seen a lot.

I'd like to see what if Hillary had not ran for president. Hopefully some people that didn't run in real life run ITTL. O'Malley, Biden, and Tester would all be interesting.

Sanders winning by Biden splitting the vote, perhaps an alternate universe where his son doesn't die, and Hillary's speeches come out earlier?

If Clinton doesn't run more candidates would enter including other progressives. maybe if Sanders wins Iowa and reachs out to minorities better, and/or Clinton is weakened, he could beat her.

AN: Disregard that previous post, those of you who actually saw it. Simossad has graciously volunteered to come on as speechwriter, and the post has been filled. Keep a eye out for updates, chums.
