Hey friends,

Over a decade ago, I attempted to end the federal recognition of Christmas, replacing it with a secular public holiday.  Although the idea was not popular then, good ideas never go bad.  It is time to bring back the campaign to abolish Christmas and replace it with greetings from the season!

Won't you show your support by joining my advocacy group, Atlasians for the Abolition of Christmas?  The only way we can show our government the passion we have for this necessary change is by organizing!

Suggestions welcome!

Certainly, with the abolition of Christmas and Easter, there will be room for new public holidays.  If anything, the number of public holidays should be increased!

We should make some day in December (not Christmas) "Seasons Greetings Day". Preferably December 23.

No. Christmas and Hanukkah should both exist, and if you want to abolish both, go to hell.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the federal government observes Hanukkah as a federal holiday.  One way of equalizing the religious favoritism would be to abstain from government sanctioned religious holidays.

To be clear, this group adamantly favors freedom of religion and conscience.  We would not support any laws criminalizing the personal celebration of Christmas or Hanukkah, obviously.

"I have always thought of Christmastime, when it has come 'round, as a good time: a kind, charitable, forgiving time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely. And for that reason... I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good, and I say God bless it!"

I'm assuming that you're referring to Christmas, yes?

Nope. Your feeble Cromwellian attempt to abolish Christmas. I'm very pro Christmas 🎄 and the Jewish holiday celebrated around the same time called Chanukah 🕎

Honestly this isn't a bad idea, although I think there are more important and less controversial things to worry about, especially since Christmas is celebrated by many as a secular holiday, unless I missed the Feast Day for St. Frosty the Snowman.

Basically, in principle I oppose government sanctioning of religious holidays, but in practice I can see it isn't a big deal and would be too hard to come to an agreement on (unless, of course, we get federal recognition of Festivus--I'd probably support that because, well, this is a forum game and we should have some fun Tongue).

Um, you know Cromwell was a Puritan, right? I don't think he was exactly in favor of the separation of church and state.
