Interesting article.

Although I wonder. Why is there so many people holding UK citizenship in Portsmouth VA?

I don't buy it. First the US Census doesn't track foreign citizenships. It does track foreign births. Portsmouth has about 2.5% foreign born. It does have a somewhat high percentage of British born among the foreign born.

Yes. 44 cities have more than 1000 Briitish born residents, Santa Monica is the only one with less than 100,000 total residences. Note that Torrance, Huntington Beach, and Carlsbad are also on the list.

I imagine most of them work in the oil industry (white collar)

Shell is Houston's largest oil company employer. BP is also large. But there are lots of British working for other companies. If you're in oil exploration, your career advancement will likely lead to Houston.

BBC did a report on expats.

8 countries have more than 100,000 British living there. It would be interesting to see guesses as to what they were and to rank them.

I'll guess Spain as #1.

In no particular order: Australia, Spain, France, US, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Italy?

That's probably way off, but eh.

Spain is #2, which was a surprise to me: Australia has about the same as USA and Canada combined.

What effect will Brexit have on British living in Spain? Since many are retirees, there has to be a constant resupply.

1. Australia

... Miles ...

2. Spain
3. USA
4. Canada

... Miles ...

5. Ireland
6. New Zealand
7. France
8. Germany

Other than getting the wrong country with an 'I', (Ireland rather than Italy) the list is correct.

Huh. I considered Ireland but I wasn't entirely sure.

I emailed about the source of their assertion, and they said that their contract with the entity that provided the data forbid disclosure. I wrote back and pointed out that Portsmouth was only 2.5% foreign-born and 50% black.
