There's plenty of ardently left-wing media too (The Stranger here in Seattle I wouldn't use to wipe my rear with) that has poisoned discourse at a local level (again, see "Stranger, The")

Dude, I remember back when they published this issue about Amazon in 2014 that had a picture of a big ugly monkey on the front with AMAZON written on its head and said like "Everyone needs to abandon Amazon NOW."  And then the articles were like, the headline was just a paraphrase of Stephen Colbert's anti-Amazon rant about how they wouldn't let a publisher extort people, and then another one complaining about how Amazon was maliciously raising everybody's rents and we needed to go to war with Amazon to keep the rent down, then one saying Amazon "bought the city's silence" by paying for urban development in South Lake Union.  But the best article was one where their field reporter went down to Amazon and harassed employees to try to get a quote about how much they hate their company, but they wouldn't give him one (because they're not stupid) so obviously it must be some massive anti-Stranger conspiracy at Amazon and they're all meek little hamsters terrified to speak to an honest newspaper.  Then he took a big picture of a Porsche and slapped it under a headline "Amazon Brogrammers were too afraid to talk to me."  F**k Amazon, amirite?

More recently they endorsed some woman for some position and the reasoning behind the endorsement was "we need more black women in government."  Later it came out that she was anti-gay, something easily verifiable by any halfway-decent news organization, and they actually had to withdraw the endorsement.  They also accidentally endorsed someone who wasn't even running.  The latest warpath is trying to prop up Kshama Sawant's effort to turn all our public parks into homeless shelters and/or heroin bazaars by slandering everyone who's against it as evil NIMBYs.  The whole paper is written in the style of a sixteen year old trying to sound cool like the writers on Gawker.  It's pointlessly sarcastic, there's so much swearing just to try to sound edgy and cool, everything is written from a super-predictable tumblr social justice angle, and you're constantly bombarded with pornographic ads for gay strippers or articles about some sort of obscene, disgusting sex act, because it's 2016 and we should all be tolerant!  We're the cool, modern newspaper because we ran an article on page 2 "My boyfriend wouldn't let me poop on him, so I ghosted his ass"

It's very irritating to me that nobody has started up an alternative publication to The Stranger, that it's treated by most of the locals as some sort of Seattle icon and a fundamental part of the city's culture, and that most young people use it as their sole resource to figure out what's going on in the city.  It's just like with Trump, how bad are Seattle residents willing to let something get before they abandon it?  Yet that which was already deplorable continues to find new ways to outdo its awfulness, but the Paul Ryans of Seattle cling to their beloved cool/alt/indie newspaper!

Bahahahaha there's no way that "pooping" thing is real. Link, please, I need to see this...

Not a lot of good options in seattle media. The Stranger is basically "Tumblr, the Newspaper" and the Times is a grumpy NIMBY rag in the tank for the Port. It still rankles me that the Stranger's position is that anyone to Sawant's right (i.e. every Democrat in America) is some kind of corporate tool who eats babies and sodomjzes puppies.

GOP lawmaker: Move to oust Ryan grows over speaker's tepid support of Trump
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/10/20/politics/republicans-ousting-paul-ryan-donald-trump/index.html?sr=twpol102016republicans-ousting-paul-ryan-donald-trump1115PMVODtopLink&linkId=30183575

Rep. Mark Meadows said Thursday the effort to remove Speaker Paul Ryan is "picking up some steam" because many GOP lawmakers and a stream of callers to the North Carolinian's congressional offices are incensed the Wisconsin Republican hasn't embraced fully Donald Trump's candidacy for president.

"A lot of people who believe so desperately that we need to put Donald Trump in the White House -- they question the loyalty of the speaker," Meadows told radio host Tyler Cralle of WAAV radio in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Do Republicans know that Trump has been accused of sexual accusations 9 times? I could see with just "the tape"(without the sexual accusations) Congressional Republicans being mad at Ryan but with the sexual accusations against Trump by 9 different women I can't see them being mad at Ryan. Its really started to anger me with Meadows and The Freedom Caucus dividing the party the way the are they are battling with other Republicans without battling Democrats. "The Republican Civil War" as the media calls it just looks like a bad soap opera or movie at times and I am tired of it. Enough is Enough.

I could care less if calls into NC Congressional Districts Offices are coming since Ryan is from Wisconsin.

It's not real, I was just writing an example of the line of stuff that's standard in there.  May have gone a bit overboard haha

There's enough Seattle-area Atlasians that I bet if they got together they could get some traction for a better media option.  Won't happen, but it's nice to think about.

WA State politics, for all their reputation of being dull, are thoroughly depressing because of stuff like the Stranger. My favorite Seattle-area news source is actually the Seattle Transit Blog because even with a narrow focus it is upfront about its implicit bias and it's well written/knowledgeable

Good. Even if it's by a different Republican, Paul Ryan has got to go. He looks like some little 12-year-old boy wandered up onto the rostrum and the way he acts as Speaker mirrors that as well.

Maybe people aren't used to a Speaker as young as Ryan. By comparison Pelosi was a senior citizen when she took the Speakership and Boehner was approaching the age that he was gonna be eligible for Social Security when he took the Speakership. By the same token Obama and Bill Clinton were about the same age(46) when they were sworn in as President as Ryan is now. Ryan does act young for his age(maybe early 30's.)

It would be funny if after the election Republicans could not find a speaker candidate, opening a way for a "bipartisan" nomination Smiley
Who like a Charlie Dent(R-PA 15th District) type?
