Other than his love for a very regressive tax code, in general the answer is no. He is more in the nature of a xenophobic bellicose state capitalist populist. That is a mouthful isn't it?

Not really, he knows some of the conservative talking points but he can't argue passionately for really much of anything. Personally I doubt he cares at all about abortion and some other issues.

No, and he's not a liberal either. He's a weird mix of things that suit his needs at that time. I'd say he's a full on corporatist robber baron from the late 1800s-early 1900s.

The ideology he claims to hold in this election is a form of conservatism, but I doubt he actually believes much of it.

I suspect he is relatively conservative on balance, though.

No. To what extent he has conservative views, they're adopted from Paul Ryan and the GOP as a whole. He's "conservative" on taxes and would probably sign the Ryan Budget, but that's not where his priorities are.

He's an Authoritarian, a Nationalist. He's just as much at odds with liberalism and the left as conservatism is, but in a different way.

In no way, shape, or form is that man a conservative. He has paid only lip service to conservatism except for wanting to stop illegal immigration, and he's managed to make a mockery of that with his "wall" talk.

He is on the right but he is not a conservative. It would be like calling Lenin or Marx a Liberal.

Indeed, he epitomozes the American conservative. Conservatism is a way of being these days, not a coherent ideology. Sorry to those old school "conservatives" who have a bit of logic and sense, but the movement has left you behind. You do not have the sufficient numbers to define what conservatism is, and you are certainly no longer representative of self-identifying conservatives in general.

the european right is controlled since years through populist nationalist men with social-democratic economic promises and an even stronger love of statism.

trump is just another of those, with even less sophistication and political skill.

it would be heartbreaking for me, if even the proud US, homeland of democracy and small-l liberalism, would fall to such crude and dangerous ideas.

Which party would he under in 1880 or 1908?

One of the weird ones that fizzled out? Inverted pro-tariff Democrat? I have no idea.

No. He may agree with conservatives on things like the tax code or business regulations, but his underlying philosophy is one of reactionary nationalism, with a contempt for the norms of small-r republican government that any real conservative should find disqualifying. The fact that so many on the right are still supporting him in spite of that is exposing the extent to which the supposed conservative philosophy of the Republican party is a fraud.

Being for protectionism in 2016 is HARDLY an indicator that said person would be a protectionist in the 1800s ... I'd go so far as to argue the opposite is true.

Trump is not a conservative.

Donald is a nationalist and a populist.

Donald is also a narcissist with a sense of male chauvinism.

Between 2001-2008, he was a registered as a Democrat.

Hillary should have mentioned that.
