That's actually a pretty solid pick, and I'd guess that they know each other well from their Arkansas background.
If it were me, I'd maybe suggest borrowing a page from Eisenhower and looking to ecumenical church organizations for a cabinet pick of their nature. Dave Beckmann from Bread for the World, for example, is an economics Ph.D. with probably more experience than anyone alive in what should be the Dept. of Agriculture's chief priority- making sure hungry people are fed.
