This is the amended version passed by the House ( after originally being passed by the Senate).

I open up a period of debate on this bill.

Here are my thoughts on the bill as it stands.

Upon further reading of the subject, I've concluded that the 24-week limit in this bill will have minimal effects on reducing the abortion rate in Atlasia.  This is because more than 90% of abortions performed in this country occur prior to the 13th week of pregnancy, with an estimated 1.3% of abortions happening later than 21 weeks.  Thus, this bill would do little to impede on a woman's constitutional right to an abortion, and in fact it is section 2 of this bill which would do more to reduce unwanted pregnancies and abortions in Atlasia.

Overall, I find the House version of this bill far more acceptable than the original bill that was passed by the Senate, which had included an unnecessary provision requiring all women opting for an abortion to go through a waiting period.

My major caveat with this now, however, is provisions 6-9.  I would like to know if the bill, should these provisions remain, would strip vital health organizations like Planned Parenthood of federal funds for the fact that abortions is one of the services that they provide.  On this note, I would remind the Senate that currently no federal funds are allocated to the procurement or performance of abortions.  All abortions are 100% privately funded and paid for by the patient.  These facilities serve millions of men and women in a number of ways, all of which are listed on their website.

If the bill as it stands removes federal funding for these health organizations, I will not vote for it.  I'd ask Clark Kent or one of the bill's supporters if that is indeed what this bill would do.

The amendment seems rather crude; and is an example of poor governance in my opinion. There's a legitimate argument to ensure that less well off have access to quality early year's services but I really don't think a family making $80,000 needs to be given 'baby supplies'

Finland, for what it's worth, has a similar policy of giving newborn babies "starter kits" that include clothes, sheets, and toys.  It's probably no coincidence that Finland has one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world.

I think a lot of people are distracted by the election, I will extend the debate period, we should also have a new Senator coming in today which will mark the first time we have a full and active Senate in a few weeks! ( really longer if you consider inactivity etc)

If I don't get an answer to my question by tomorrow, I'm writing a new amendment.

I'm in support of any legislation promoting alternatives to abortion. However the number of weeks till abortion is banned in cases other than rape, incest, or life of the mother is not low enough.

As a former Senator, and someone who's spend a good amount of time trying to get this bill to a workable state it's clear that we need answers on the issue

I think the current text is a good compromise, right?

No answer to my question.  I'll be offering this amendment which I hope will be seen as an acceptable compromise.

What if we used the money funding the health companies/organizations for our own government's healthcare?
