If you had to ask me my opinion I think its going to be a Trump or Cruz like  candidate who will be nominated based on the current trajectory of the GOP. I don't see how a Kasich, Rubio, Bush or Christie type Republican can be nominated in this era of the Republican party.

At this rate, I wouldn't be shocked if GOP voters nominate Trump a second time.

Something in between the second and the third option.  It will be someone with an ideology similar to Scott Walker, but probably not Walker himself.

Option one or two. There are too many deplorables for a reasonable Republican to win the nomination (not that Flawless Beautiful Marco Purple heart Purple heart Purple heart is "reasonable"...)

Because we saw how much of a heavyweight he is.

From your mouth to G-d's ears.

However, I tend to agree with the pessimistic estimate that the genie is out of the bottle and the GOP will again nominate some deplorable. Voted option 1.

Either A or B. As much as most posters, D and R alike, on this forum want to see the Republican Party restore its sanity, there's simply no evidence that the base (those who actually turn out to vote in the primaries) desire someone like Kasich, Bush, Ryan, or even Rubio. The future is with a fusion of Cruz Movement Conservatism and Trump Populism.  Whoever can best capture that will win in 2020.

Types like Rand Paul or John Kasich seem most likely.

A Trump style candidate who has political office. I think Bevin is the only potential 2020 candidate aside from Amash who is exciting me.

Conservative establishment, as our voters have proven they are pretty stupid this year but not THAT stupid.  Eventually, ya get tired of losing.

I think a compromise ticket between the moderates and the establishment. Rubio/Kasich or something of that ilk.

I could see any of the four happening. Historically speaking I would expect 3 or 4, based on my current estimation of the GOP electorate's intelligence, I would expect 1, 2 is a compromise choice.

At this rate, I wouldn't be shocked if GOP voters nominate Trump a second time.

It depends on how his loss gets spun in the conservative media. If all the talk radio guys who've been defending him finally admit he was a terrible candidate, and harp on it for four years, that may be able to stop him if he runs again. Plus the other candidate's will likely attack him much more vigorously and bring up his sexual misconduct and call him a loser.

Trump is also old and deeply insecure so he'll probably just want to hide under a rock after he loses. I don't think he'll run again but I'd be a little worried that he'd get the nomination if he did.
