I hate these. If the tax code is going to be made more complicated, it should be done with the goal of generating some kind of economically desirable policy outcome. It shouldn't be used as what amounts to a giveway for Disabled Widows of Firefighters Who Only Drive Their Cars Once a Week to Church to Read to the Blind.

I've made a sample one to print out to bring with me when I voted. Here's how it'll be:

President and Vice-President: Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine
US Representative: Keith Ellison
State Senator: Jeff Hayden
State Representative: Karen Clark
Constitutional Amendment: Yes
School Board District 1: Kim Ellison
School Board District 4: Josh Reimnitz
School District Question: Yes
Minnesota Supreme Court Justice 6: Natalie Hudson
4th District Court Justice 37: Carolina A. Lamas
All the other judges: random write-ins

Alas a candidate connected to my church is not on the ballot like in some districts.

I was definitely going to vote on the ballot questions (no, no, undecided, undecided), and possibly screw up my nose and vote for elected offices as well, but I got confused about the date and missed the deadline for updating my registration from Newton to Brookline.

I'm not going to, as I don't live there any more and won't have reliable transportation to my Newton polling place on a Tuesday.

President: Hillary Clinton (Democratic)

U.S. Senate: Jim Barksdale (Democratic)

Ref. 1: yes (allows the state to intervene in chronically failing schools)

Ref. 2: yes (uses penalties for sexual exploitation cases to help child victims)

Ref. 3: yes (reforms Judicial Qualifications Commission)

Ref. 4: yes (dedicates fireworks tax to trauma care/fire services/public safety)

Voting Republican for all remaining state/local races because they are unopposed and I have personal ethical issues with leaving the ballot blank.

Question 2 (legal weed): Abstain
Question 3 (ending electricity utility monopoly): Yes
Question 4 (ending sales tax on medical equipment): Sure
Question 5 (continuing to tie fuel taxes to the rate of inflation): K

This is really odd and I'd be interested if you explained it: to me submitting a blank vote when there's only one name on the ballot sends a bit of a message, more of one than just voting for whoever the random person is.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but I generally think if the legislature wants to do something like this they should let the locality collect the property tax and then the state can reimburse the person directly. I may vote Nay on that basis.
