Absolutely it's an appropriate sentence for the horrific rape of a child.

One wants to hope that even such a one as he can find redemption, but I doubt he'll find it in this life.

I actually voted yes, but then I remembered that this encourages rapists to murder their victims.
That's a good point, unless they prefer life in prison to the death penalty.

I'm all for this scumbag going away forever, but this absurd sentence of 1,503 years is eye-rollingly over the top. I remember some other person was sentenced to 251 years in prison and people complained it wasn't harsh enough. Just call it life without and move on.

I'm pretty sure stacking on as many years as possible was intentional. They didn't need to charge him with 186 counts to put him away for life.

Maybe 3 years too long, but otherwise okay. I dont favor the death penalty, not because I think it is wrong to put these sickos to death but because I disapprove giving the state that power, so life imprisonment in tough conditions is all there is. Not that I would be upset if he were executed...

Or you could just sentence him to you know, life in prison? I'd love to hear how they came up with 1503 years.

Agreed, which is why I'd be happy if they sent him to the afterlife right now to try and find redemption.

Totality of all the crimes he was convicted of.

Still waiting guys..........

No one is disputing the fact that this man is horrible. The issue is the stupidity of sentencing someone to  1503 years when no human has ever lived longer than 122 years.

This is ridiculous. Just give the man one or two life sentences and be done with it.

No.

The reason I oppose life imprisonment isn't because I believe everybody should always get out of jail at some point. I simply believe the possibility should exist. No matter how heinous the crime, I have to believe that everyone has within themselves the possibility to redeem themselves.

Of course, the more heinous the crime, the harder the burden of what constitutes redemption should be, and in a case like this it might be effectively insurmountable, but still.

Psychopaths are incapable of reforming themselves into better people. Any adaptation to their character will be for the purpose of better hiding what they truly are. You cannot teach a psychopath empathy or remorse, their brains aren't wired to view people as anything other than objects. At most, you can only socially reengineer them, but you cannot cure them.
