Except for 2012, every Republican nomination contest since 1968 has featured a former or future TV show host as one of the top three candidates:

2016: Donald Trump (The Apprentice) and John Kasich (From the Heartland)
2008: Mike Huckabee (Huckabee)
2000: Steve Forbes (Forbes on Fox)
1996: Steve Forbes again and Pat Buchanan (Crossfire)
1992: Pat Buchanan again
1988: Pat Robertson (The 700 Club)
1980,1976,1968: Ronald Reagan (General Electric Theater)
