Swear in everybody. Then we can get a Speaker.

Unless it's a new law, swearing in is not right after an election (except special election).

The North has its own regional rules.

Just skimmed the constitution and it doesn't give a specific time for swearing in other than "within a week of the session's beginning" (paraphrase)

I found it. The term begins the Friday after the regular election for Governor and delegates.

Article V, section 9 of the North Constitution:

That wasn't a problem with the previous Assembly, which began almost instantly after the election. I will also note that while the Constitution does specify when terms begin, it doesn't specify exactly when to swear in, only saying "prior to assuming office." If there are any serious problems with starting early, then we can always amend the Constitution one we really get started.

We should open by Friday noon then.

That's because the 1st Assembly was chosen by a special election. As the primary author of the Northern Constitution, I can confirm that Friday (tomorrow) is the official commencement date of the new session. That shouldn't stop anyone from swearing in early, though.

I know that terms don't officially start until tomorrow, I just want to announce that my nomination for Lieutenant Governor is darthebearnc. We can confirm him and a get a Speaker this weekend. Then next week we can really get started.

I've been busy this weekend, so I'll just do two things right now.

Nominations for Speaker are open. Only members of the Assembly can be nominated. And if you haven't sworn in, then do it right now, or else I'll send you PMs reminding you to do it until your inbox is full.

As an FYI: The Assembly needs to work on a budget this session.

I'll be working out some figures for a starting point when the Presidential race is finally over. Smiley

I think DKrol would also make a good speaker.

I'll accept the nomination.

As a disclaimer, I am heavily involved in a U.S. campaign and will have limited time until after November 8th. I would gladly accept the nomination and give the office, if elected, to a deputy for the next week or so.

I move to nominate DKrol as speaker, and I'll accept a deputy role if that's okay with the assembly.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what a governor looks like.

For Wiki purposes, can someone remind me of who the last Lt.G was?

Senator-elect LLR has deregistered and intends not to serve the term he was elected to last month.  Per the Constitution, we'll need the Governor appoint an Acting Senator to swear in for the Class I seat on Friday.

Because the seat isn't officially vacant yet with Blair still in, I'm not entirely sure if the special election ought to be held this Friday or next Friday.  Because the vacancy will officially happen on Friday, the election probably gets pushed to the 11th.

Scratch that - I forgot that senators swear in upon election.  The special election shall be this Friday.

According to the SOAP, DKrol is Speaker because no one has expressed any opposition to his nomination and R2D2 is interested in another role. This is good news, because now the Assembly can actually get stuff done. There is currently one bill up for debate (or at least it should be), and I hope to see more introduced by members of the assembly (and I'll introduce a few if I don't think it should be executive ordered).

I'll accept a deputy role if that's okay with the assembly.

This is an interesting idea. Would R2D2 care to explain exactly what he has in mind?

Thank you for your confidence.

I now hand the gavel over to R2D2 until such a time as I may reclaim it, presumably November 9th or 10th.
