If I was in possession of the tapes and was trying to time the release to inflict the most damage, I might drop them on November 1st (Tuesday, day after Halloween, enough time for one last week's worth of negative coverage).

This. Let's hope and pray. I hope the rumors of Trump saying the N-word on tape are true. Would probably work to shake off all but the most diehard supporters.

Honestly... I wouldn't waste them unless they're needed.

These things have a tendency to desensitise people. Don't beat them over the head, so they not only stop listening to Trump, but stop listening to you too.

If there was no early voting, that would be a great idea. Americans have really low attention spans. Now might be the time to drop any tape, as it would damage Trump in early voting much sooner. On the other hand, the media and the American people would get bored of it by next week.

Sheer speculation, but there could be a form of MAD going on. If Trump and his Russian backers don't release a fake "Clinton sold arms to ISIS" email, then team Clinton won't burn his brand to the ground by releasing a real tape. of him snorting coke and raping underage prostitutes. For example.
