Weld must be extremely disillusioned with his running mate. FF all around.

So many had such high hopes for Gary. And now it's come down to this...

He's not even receiving the most attention among 3rd party candidates - see McMullin.

There should be no reason that a credible solid 3rd party candidate couldnt be fighting for 10% of the vote this cycle.

Of course Gary isnt that so..

I don't think there's a better way to prove you're an incompetent lightweight than running for President. And aside of Mr. a lepo we've seen folks like Marco Rubio and Ben Carson this very season.

I wish the LP had nominated Weld, but he would have had no shot at the convention. He's fit into an American version of the Lib Dems, which is what the LP has to morph into if it wants to be viable.

I'm sure the LP has the best and most accurate internal polls of any political party

This ticket would have been so much better with Weld at the top.

True. Any R that wins a statewide race in Massachusetts and takes Kerry to the wire deserves attention...

Even as a Republican, I cannot vote for Trump. I was debating voting for Gary, but as a pastor I refuse to vote for an atheist. So I'm left with "her."

This. I have no idea why he would take second fiddle to Johnson unless he just couldn't get the L endorsement without him. I would've voted for Weld in a heartbeat.

It was a statement against Trump. There was nothing for Clinton.

I was joking, of course.

But it is sad that Johnson misscredited LP. Third parties are in general a good thing, I think. Not in this Evil vs Good election though.

Yes it is, because he devoted his life to providing excellent constituent service (even Democrats admit this) and was a courageous leader in the conservative movement. He improved the world and then left to meet his creator.

Weld was not much better than Johnson, when it came to impressing me on substance. Both are nice guys, no doubt about it. But Weld holding Johnson to a higher standard then himself (if he is disillusioned), is off putting to me.

Even if Johnson doesn't hit the 5% threshold (Most polls still show him doing it), the one thing he has done is make people more aware of the existence of the LP, which has to help them going forward. That being said, in 2020, they should try someone else. Try to get Justin Amash or Rand Paul to run. Both are not only libertarian-leaning like Johnson, but are also Pro-Life, and current officeholders, two things Johnson isn't but would have definitely helped. Just make sure to brief them on foreign hot spots before they do any interviews.

Weld is far too sane for the Libertarians. He doesn't want to completely gut the government.

I think Weld could have gotten the LP nomination in 2004 or 2008, but he didn't want it either time. It's not so much that the LP isn't so into him, as that he's not all that into the LP. He didn't even endorse Gary Johnson in 2012. Trump's nomination in 2016 is what really drove him to the LP, and he was wise to go for the VP slot instead of the Presidential nomination, because Johnson is more popular than he is in the party.

I think that Weld won't run in 2020 for two reasons. One is that the GOP nominee won't be Trump. The other is that Weld will be 75. The only way I can see a Weld 2020 LP run is if Trump wins in 2016 and is renominated in 2020, the LP has a particularly garbage Presidential contest (like just Adam Kokesh or something), and Weld maintains excellent health for a 70 something. I know I'd support Weld in a Weld/Kokesh matchup, and a lot of the LP's older members (the ones who don't troll social media and blogs all the time) are much more likely to go for Weld over Kokesh, so it wouldn't be farfetched to think that he would win the nomination in those unlikely circumstances.
