Bush, obviously.  Saddam is only peripherally responsible in that he did not have a nuclear arsenal to fend off the aggressor.  His error has been noted by North Korea and Iran.

Saddam violated the cease fire.  We just finished the job.  Smiley

Yes, because he had no nuclear weapons, poor fellow.

hehehe . . . he was far from poor.  His people on the other hand . . .

Poor as in unfortunate, a sympathetic character.  His people (the Sunnis) were of course doing fine under him, and far better than they'll fair under the stooge regime.

Oh, one race of people is fine, but the other two were being repressed or killed.  Now, all three have a chance (and more Sunnis are becoming involved with the process every day).

Really no different from the situation in the US with the blacks and whites.

And yet we matured and realized our mistakes.  That would never had happened under Saddam in Iraq.

No we didn't!  I'm talking about the present situation.

No matter how "civilized" any society becomes, there will always be a few people who will be biased or prejudiced against others.  As far as the US today, it's a hell of a lot better than it was 40 years ago.

Hmm.  Legally speaking, perhaps a bit.  In practice, particularly economically, probably worse.

In any case that was precisely my point - all the criticisms heaped upon Hussein were just propaganda.  Of course one group was better off, and the subjugated groups were jailed and persecuted - just like in the States.  And yet suckers believed he was some kind of monster.

"War of the Worlds."  Great special effects, but terrible story.

What was the *real* reason for the war?
Was it because Haliburton stock holders wanted it,
or because Bush wanted to get re-elected?
Or both?

The matter of the fact is, that they planned the war in Iraq long before the war in Afganistan.

Yes, the Pentagon did.  Of course, they keep current assault plans on all nations which they deem to be a threat.  They are updated every 2 to 5 years to account for new roads, bridges, and key targets.  Since we were already at war with Iraq, those invasion plans were probably updated each year.  There's nothing shocking about that.
