Say Buchanan wins the GOP nomination in 1996. He has Trump's message (actually more conservative on social issues), but without the tendency to say stupid and/or insane things. Who wins?

Oh gee, wow, one of the men who ruined America, or Pat Buchanan?

I think he would have had a shot in 2000, if Trump wins today. He is like a spectere of what was to come. Like Sanders.

Clinton wins. My vote would've been for him too; don't like Buchanan for obvious reasons, and while Harry Browne's heart was in the right place he was definitely a little too kooky. 1990s Democrats were more tolerable than 2010s Democrats, as well.

Buchanan (probably) would have lost, as would any of the Pubs who ran that year, but he would have done better than Dole by virtue of his appeal to Southerners and Appalachians. With an economic nationalist leading the Republican ticket, Perot is a non-factor in this election.

You do not think Perot would have become an (admittedly ironic) outlet for moderate Republicans?

I think Perot in that case would serve as a target for some strange combination of environmentalists and Rockefeller Republicans. Weicker or Lamm in this case looks like a much more fitting third party candidate or VP pick.

Clinton easily; would've voted Dole in a normal election.
