There are good arguments on either side. Either he was helping his Republican buddies hold Congress, or in trying to protect his and/or the FBI's reputation, he made massive, unforced errors that can only be attributed to incompetence of the highest level, worthy of resignation.

Personally I'm not 100% committed to either, but I am sure it's one of those. He's either a partisan hack using the FBI to protect Republicans or he is one hell of a dunderhead, both of which mean he can't be trusted as the head of the FBI.

And Obama needs to stop getting his people (Biden, Earnest) to defend him. I get that he doesn't want it to look like he got duped, but he did, and there are a few things more important than saving face right now.

Regardless of his motivations, he has politicized the FBI to such a degree that he's incapable of continuing to manage it. If he had any shame he'd be penning his resignation letter by now.

Yes.  If it's true, then it's a big deal, and Comey is clearly operating in a partisan fashion and needs to resign.  But it needs some independent verification.

No President can fire them.

They're like the Federal Reserve, and his term isn't up until 2023.

No, I saw that. It's just some people were still doubting. When the FBI won't muster more than a "no comment" on the story, that pretty much seals the deal on it's truthfulness.
