Let's see if this story has legs. So far it is coming from Harry Reid and an "unknown" source of CNBC.
Even if the story turns out to be true, it does not necessarily imply that Putin and Trump are actively cooperating. Frankly, Putin may have correctly assessed that Trump is a person with no moral compass and, getting him in the White House may be the key to finalize the takeover of Crimea and to take down sanctions against Russia. Trump may have also realized that the Russian leaks are the only thing keeping him from a landslide loss. If there was no direct collusion, this is legally not an issue. No point in talking about morals or ethics, as both Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin have none.
Comey, on the other hand is on thin ice here. IMHO, he correctly withheld the info on Russian involvement, to keep FBI out of the election. His letter to Congress is another matter, even though his defence will probably be that he "had to come out" because he testified earlier that the email investigation was over. Even though the two pieces of information are somewhat different, I am not quite sure that both ethically and legally he is correct in withholding one and semi-publishing the other.
Last, but not least, let's not forget that none of this would even matter, if Clinton's team did not engage in some dubious practices in the first place!
Which works politically because it turns the email issue into a partisan witch hunt and rallies Dems
