Agreed, but they've survived (and excelled) a lot worse.

Yeah, it's not quite the blitzkrieg. Still frightening though.

Well, seems you have all already heard about our "incidents" as the railways are calling them.

Been through three of the sites of the "incidents" today: Moorgate at about 8:30ish, my train left King's Cross at 8:45, about 10 minutes before the blast there and then came through Liverpool Street this afternoon coming home from Cambridge.

Lots of people in pubs on my way home, unusual numbers for a Thursday - that is how we get over our troubles here, at the pub.

Everyone you all know okay?

This is terrible! I had heard that there were only three incidents but apparently there were six.

My heart goes out to the people of London and the United Kingdom Cry. July 7, 2005 is truly a day that will live in infamy

Turns out Rudy Giuliani was "yards away" from the blasts today.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=355035&in_page_id=1770

Two great cities now stand side by side in the eyes of the world.  England did not cave in to the Blitz, she did not cave in to the IRA, and she will not cave in to al-Qaeda.

Wow, they seem to follow him. The WTC isn't far from NY city hall.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the bombing and the British people.   I've got quite a few friends from college from London.  Hopefully everyone is ok.

My Thoughts and Prayers go out to all who have been involved either directly or indirectly in this tragedy.  I hope everyone's family and friends are all well.

A question: what do you think the political ramifications will be? Will British public opinion become more hawkish and pro-American, or more pacifist and isolationist?

I'm not sure. Not-so-surprisingly, George Galloway has something to add:

"We argued, as did the security services in this country, that the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq would increase the threat of terrorist attack in Britain. Tragically Londoners have now paid the price of the Government ignoring such warnings."

Iraq was a mistake, but why is he complaining about Afganistan?

I'm not surprised by Mr. Galloway's knee-jerk reaction. He is trying to make political capital out of a tragedy, and hopefully the British people will see through that.

First of all, all my sympathy for the ones who lost a parent, a friend, or just saw, lived, or were injured by the attacks.

Those attacks had in France ( and I think also in Spain, Germany ...) an extremely deep impact. New York, Madrid, London now, who's next ? It's just terrible, and I hope we won't have anymore such quarrels like english food between our presidents or prime ministers. Working together looks to be the only way to prevent attacks. I hope my prayers will be heard.

George Galloway is hard enough at the best of times without this. This isn't a time for party politics and he should 'Respect' that.

I think the US is more affected by this than London.  We raised terror alerts to orange and red, and today in the news they asked some woman riding on the light rail system here whether or not she was more worried.  She said, "Oh, it gives you something to think about."

Yay London!

Of the four 'allies' pre-Iraq, Australia is the only one left unattacked now-at least on home soil-but I think it's unlikely to affect me. It won't change how I act, anyway; but it does make you wonder if we'll be next.

afleitch, it's hard to make out that thing in your signature, what exactly is in it beyond the US Capitol?

It's not the Capitol, it's St. Paul's Cathedral.
