It's not a good look.  Y'all are way too optimistic about this, as long as Comey and the FBI are in the news, people will have to talk about why, and that means they'll only give a short snippet of some nefarious-sounding e-mail deeds or, even worse, talk about the Marc Rich pardon, in both cases without giving Clinton any chance to defend herself or giving any mitigating detail to prevent the story in people's minds from being "FBI has something on Clinton so terrible they had to violate procedures to drop a bomb this close to election day."

No, that's not what it is because we KNOW that they had not even seen a thing when he wrote the letter. They didn't even have a warrant to do so until days later.

It's like if Romney had responded to the 47% leak by attacking Jimmy Carter's grandson for illegally taping him and being a hack.
Yeah, he's right, but training your fire on the source doesn't accomplish anything and just fritters away airtime that you could be using to defend yourself.
At least the WikiLeaks stuff they got to put the "Putin is helping Trump" narrative out there, although even that wasn't so helpful because people went over the top with it and it became a ridiculous conspiracy theory.  Attacking Comey and the FBI does nothing.

They just need to lie and say that all that was on Weiner's laptop was a backup archive of some of the e-mails already released, and hope that the FBI doesn't contradict that before election day.  If the FBI does contradict it, throw Huma under the bus.  Not a perfect solution, but at least it gives her defenders an easy, unassailable line "it was all just backup e-mails, none of this is new information."
