The Bridge on the River Kwai. My first viewing was when it came back as a rerun in the mid-60's at the local drive in.

He was an elitist prick with no understanding of what was to come, no concept of people idk, actually doing constructive things with inspiration.

I make no apologies when I say Ewan McGregor was the better Kenobi, since he actually gave a damn.

So, no I have no favorite performance was someone so vile, and if those pictures are correct, so dull anyway.

Peter Sellers is a much better contemporary of his.

Elitist prick, absolutely. Calling him 'vile' for it is, uh, going a bit far.

Guinness would probably agree with you on him being a prick.

As of calling his work "dull", it's pure nonsense.

Given MormDem's attitude, this should be his favorite pick, if only for Guinness dying eight times.

He was a beautiful soul imo.

"One of the bad things we read about when we got home was the continued sectarian killings in Northern Ireland. Now is the start of the marching season. A clockwork Orangeman explained on TV, 'The marches are part of our culture.' I saw him as a Cultured Man, wound up throughout the summer, beating a drum."

Sellers was a funny guy and all, but Guinness was far superior both as an actor and as a human being...

He was very good in Cromwell as Charles I. The historical inaccuracy of the film notwithstanding, he really was Charles I.

Okay, yeah--that's a gorgeous paragraph.

I believe one of Guinness' issues with the Star Wars was the fact George Lucas simply sucks at writing, particularly dialogues. Some of the movie's finest lines were a result of actors (notably Harrison Ford) simply disregarding what George wrote and improvising.
