Oh for f**k's sake.

And Turin is actually the city I lived in as a kid, so you were twice right to mention me, Crabcake. Tongue

The M5S is a complete joke. I hope Renzi OBLITERATES them by 2018.

Well, promoting vegetarian diet is not really that stupid idea although making such controversy and discussion never helps the cause.

Movement Five Star were probably pissed the media were labeling them as 'populist' and so decided to do something that was the opposite of popular.

What exactly is the proposal here? Do they plan to ban the sale of meat on the "meat free day", or just encourage students and government workers to not eat meat? Most of this sounds rather anodyne, except, I suppose, the bit about filling kids heads with "animal rights" propaganda (animal welfare would be one thing, e.g. "don't kick dogs"...).

But what's this about toilet paper?!

From what I've read about the 5 Star Movement, I am not impressed. They're generally socially liberal, but they seem very half-assed about their policies, as this article makes clear.

The fact that the party was founded by a comedian makes me think Beppe Grillo is the Italian Jon Stewart.

Also, and I hate to be so clueless, what are the red objects from Puglia in the picture halfway through the article? The sign says "a Casse 0.50 Euros"

Diversely formed tomatoes. ;-)

And yes, the most impressive thing about the 5 Star Movement is that it is the only major European populist outfit that manages to be both left-wing and right-wing and neither left nor right, but still fringe.

The people of this city will be weaker, dumber, and deficient of key nutrients such as iron, zinc, creatine, and Vitamin B12.

"...The exact details of Appendino’s five-year plan have yet to be fleshed out..."

groan.

My son is at the age where he has discovered the joy of making bad puns.  I have to put up with this sort of thing all the time lately.
