Why isn't Huntsman being bandied about for State?
He was a fairly tepid supporter. I think he'd be a good pick, but he's too establishment to roll out right away (have to float Bolton longer in order to appease both the base and terrify the Senate) before he can smoothly get Huntsman out there.

Oh come, we all know Huntsman would be approved easily if Trump announced the pick this second, stop acting like this all part of tin-foil brilliant plan.  This whole mess is just Trump and co. bumblef***ing their way through the transition process b/c they're in over their heads already and never seriously planned for what they'd do if they actually won.

Hmmm....now that the game of musical chairs has ended, the cabinet is starting to look a bit more reasonable. Bolton and Myron Ebell have gone down a notch on the speculation ladder, which is good.

The funniest possible pick I see on that list if Donald Trump Jr. for Secretary of the Interior.

I don't think he'll be picked though.

CNN saying Cotton likely for Defense, sources say Kobach for AG.

Ugh.

I'd hate to lose Cotton as a Senator, but he would be good!

Cotton is qualified to be Secretary of Defense despite his uber-hawkishness so long as the Secretary of State is a more realistic type.

Too bad Brent Scowcroft is ancient. He's perfect for the role in my opinion. More or less in tune with the Trump foreign policy. Yet he is #NeverTrump IIRC.

What is genuinely concerning to me is that I think this is not a poison pill nomination. The interventionist Breitbart crowd is pushing him. Hopefully this will not be the case.

Price is not a bad choice, but he'd probably serve Republicans better as the fail safe option in case the Freedom Caucus ends Paul Ryan.

Also I thought for sure Cotton was using the Senate as a place to launch a future bid for President - although maybe he sees being in charge of Defense as a better launching point.

From a policy perspective, obviously, Cotton is a cartoonish nightmare.

Price, unique among Republicans, has actually authored a replacement for the ACA. It isn't great, but he's at least put his name on something.

Cotton would be a disaster. Now I'm worried.

Bob Ehrlich is apparently being considered for a job in the Trump administration, but we don't know which one:

I don't see any reporting about Cotton, except secondhand reports about a deleted tweet. Politico has mentioned Sessions and Hadley for SecDef, not Cotton.

The punters at Predictit aren't buying the "Cotton for Sec. of Defense" talk.  Say CNN is just playing a game of telephone with rumors, not coming up with a viable source.  They still have Sessions as the favorite for that job.

He's not being seriously considered because Trump and his transition team are picking people based off of loyalty, not off of actual skill or talent.

I think Huntsman would be a fantastic SoS.

The latest trial balloon is Ted Cruz for Attorney General:

The price for nominating Cruz to be AG is that Ted may have to have his father charged over his role in the JFK assassination.
