Uh oh.

RFK Jr says Trump asked him to chair a committee on vaccines. Both of them support fringe anti-vaccine theories.

This strikes me as completely different from "vaccines cause autism".

While this is one issue I disagree with Trump on, he did say he would prefer vaccines to be given in smaller, more continual doses rather than abolishing them entirely. I still hate how he's taking the coastal approach on vaccines, though. (Places like West Virginia and Mississippi, for example, are some of the strongest pro-vaccine areas in the nation.)

It's appalling that vaccination is controversial enough that the "issue" has geography.

Too many vaccines can cause a weakening of our immune systems. If few people ever developed anything more serious than the common cold usually, mostly currently harmless flu strands would have death rates skyrocket. It is not healthy to prevent 99% of non-fatal diseases.

Whooping cough and the like are different, however.

That is not true at all.

[quote]DO VACCINES “WEAKEN” THE IMMUNE SYSTEM?

Vaccines may cause temporary suppression of delayed-type hypersensitivity skin reactions or alter certain lymphocyte function tests in vitro. However, the short-lived immunosuppression caused by certain vaccines does not result in an increased risk of infections with other pathogens soon after vaccination. Vaccinated children are not at greater risk of subsequent infections with other pathogens than unvaccinated children. On the contrary, in Germany, a study of 496 vaccinated and unvaccinated children found that children who received immunizations against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, Hib, and polio within the first 3 months of life had fewer infections with vaccine-related and -unrelated pathogens than the nonvaccinated group.

So I guess David Shulkin, a VA Undersecretary appointed by Obama, will be VA head.

... why not just keep McDonald then?

Yep, our president is definitely an internet troll. An anti-vaxxer to, huh? How much more of reality is this administration going to deny? Is his next appointment going to be someone who thinks the Earth is flat, and the Sun revolves around it?

Sounds like just tha House meeting, but now I'm worried. Mattis and Kelly are two of the few adults in the room for this admin

The waiver that Mattis needs to get in order to lead the DoD as a former general: Does that need to pass both houses of Congress, or just the Senate?

Both houses, since they would actually need to pass legislation allowing it.

Didn't they already pass it in the DoD reauthorization/funding bill?

No, Republicans simply threw in some language that would make it harder to block Mattis' confirmation.

House Democrats are threatening to revolt over the waiver needed for James Mattis to serve as defense secretary after the Trump transition team blocked him from testifying before the House Armed Services Committee.

Plan was since his announcement that he would testify to both sides of Congress, but the transition team has pulled him out of House testimony. House Republicans aren't happy either, but they are planning on voting for the waiver anyway.

If they think the restriction is outmoded, why isn't the GOP calling for a full repeal of it, rather than a one-time waiver?  There's absolutely nothing special about either our current defense needs or this nominee that warrants waiving the rule just for him just this one time.

How can this affect his nomination?  Price along with Puzder and Pruitt are by far the most dangerous Trump appointees.

The GOP is probably figuring that laws in general will be irrelevant by the time the Trump-Pence administration is over.

Grain of salt, but Erick Erickson says: "Allegedly, the Trump Team Will Nominate Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Agriculture"

Sonny Perdue is a decent choice actually.
