It turns out IceSpear was right.  I won't doubt him again.

No, I'm not joking. IceSpear said Cole would win, but Justice actually won.

Further Downballot, republicans picked up SOS, Auditor, and Ag. Comm., and held Att. Gen., but Dems held Treasurer.

Curious to how WV will continue to vote once Obama is gone and the coal mines don't come back.

Has IceSpear issued a statement?  Hopefully he's more graceful in being totally wrong than TN Vol, who just moved the goalposts and is sure to remain as annoying as ever.

IceSpear (RIP) was wrong about many things, but I don't recall him being wrong on this one.

You seriously didn't see him declaring the West Virginia Gov Race Safe R on day 1?

Huh I fully realize that I was wrong about NH. Sununu won, Trump came very close to winning it and Ayotte almost certainly would have won had the other Republican candidate not run as an Independent. So yeah, the state is winnable for Republicans if they're having a very good night, but I still think it leans Democratic in a neutral environment and will continue to trend a bit Democratic (unlike Maine or Rhode Island, for example). The Democrats still have a very high floor in the state.

So yeah, I'm sorry, but I was 100% convinced that NH is gone for the GOP after what happened in 2012 and 2014.

I was right about Ron Johnson being much more likely to win than Kelly Ayotte, though. Wink

My apologies, then.  I sincerely hope we're moving toward an environment with fewer safe states and more ticket splitting, as that's what's best for the country.

Some of his best lines were how West Virginians weren't ever going to ticket split ever again because they now viewed even local Democrats as part of the anti-White hate group that was the Democratic Party and repeatedly referencing "Governor Cole" and how he was measuring the drapes of the governor's mansion. I think Jim Justice being a former Republican who bragged about how he didn't vote for Obama certainly helped. Still, his margin of victory suggests that it's still only going to get harder for Democrats here.

Jesus Wulfric, you are one dishonest scumbag.

Prediction: Justice will lose by double digits. That's right, the West Virginia Democratic Party will suffer a quick but painful death next year.

Yeah.

Bold Prediction: Next fall, there will be at least one serious thread entitled "Will Justice win a county in WV?". Same probably goes for Kessler if he gets the nomination instead.

Meanwhile I was the only one bullish on Justice!

Just as I've always said: Jim Justice will wipe the floor with that weenie Kessler then defeat low-energy loser Cole in a landslide, and when Cruz inevitably departs after one term of being Trump's VP, Trump/Justice will unite the country for another term of greatness.

Heard it here first, folks.

I never said anything specifically about what I personally predicted in this topic.  And I also never had the race at Safe R in my actual ratings - I will let you browse you through the revision history for my gubernatorial Google doc if you like.

Ahem

Safe D. Not even a contest. Justice has had this thing locked up from the get go. The margin of victory be damned, he was always gonna win this seat from day one.

Justice actually won by more than Earl Ray Tomblin did either time, and Justice had a third party left-wing challenge with solid name recognition. Assuming at least half of Pritt's voters go to Justice and the other half stay home, it would've been a ten point wipeout.

Yeah, I was wrong. No excuses here. Congrats to all my WV detractors. Tongue

However, Manchin is still almost certainly going to lose. But I'll upgrade it from safe R to likely R in light of Justice's victory.

Yeah, I'm fine. I've been doing all my venting in real life to friends, family, and random acquaintances, and have tried to tune out of politics a bit for the time being. I even change the channel when the news is on. Tongue

I am still pretty surprised Goodwin lost the primary, and by such a big amount.
