But to the main point. This is the first I've seen the rail brought up seriously in years, and I live in the state. I'm curious as to what role it will play in the election come 2018.

I don't get the Presidential vibe from him. Maybe if a Democratic nominee in 2024/8 wants an older, less exciting but experienced VP nominee, he would be the way to go.

That's what I was thinking, assuming the Presidential nominee is someone who hasn't really made a splash yet rather than Warren/Booker/Harris (somebody who's currently a youngish Congresswoman, maybe?).

I don't think Chiang will run for president, unlike Jerry Brown's multiple runs. Chiang strikes me as a competent technocrat who wants to stay in California.
