Chirac bugs me for several reasons, but he's still far superior.

Write in Sarkozy if I can.

Chirac is right wing though...

Chirac will never again be able to win an election anywhere in the world, and Chavez would get crushed anywhere with a stable democracy.

So a third party candidate of some kind would win a landslide.

Yes Chirac is right wing, but American righties still loathe the guy.

So he would've lost to Jospin in 2002?

If that election was re-run now, he'd come something like fifth.

I'm not so sure he's right wing. He is not left wing either.
I think Gaullism does not fit either side of the spectrum, due to its specifities.
