What would be the upsides and downsides to California Senator-elect Kamala Harris running for president in 2020? Does she have any baggage? Can she appeal to white working class voters?

Being in political office for over 35 years and rubbing elbows with all the muckity mucks and political elite. Yeah, not elite because he tells people things they want to hear (sounds familiar, doesn't it?)

Upsides=
She would be the first female President.
She was a national leader on a key issue (justice reform) before she became Senator.
She is likely to excite liberals with her voting record.
The media seems to like her.

Downsides=
A San Francisco politician may be a tough sell in Ohio.
Her private life isn't very appealing (no kids, married a rich lawyer at 49, once dated a prominent politician 30 years her senior.)

I agree. I hope she won't catch on in the 2020 primaries.

Which is of course deeply unfair considering whom she'd be running to unseat.

Bernie was described as a loner by his colleagues in the senate and too dogmatic (aka principled) to work with.

Establishment meant those in control of the party.
As for Bernie, he got more amendments passed in the House 1995-2006 than any other member. So he still managed to get things done despite not being establishment.

Yet he took soft money/establishment support in his Senate bid
